Lutheran World Relief

Affirming God’s love for all people, Lutheran World Relief (LWR) works with Lutherans and partners around the world to end poverty, injustice and human suffering. Trinity supports the ongoing work of LWR through our monthly Fill the Jar collection for World Hunger, our annual shipment of quilts, health kids and school supplies in backpacks sewn by members and our Fair Trade pantry.

Fill the Jar - Feed the Hungry

On the first Sunday of each month, Trinity puts out a large glassbowl and invites worshippers to "fill the jar" with loose change, bills and checks. The money donated is sent to the ELCA World Hunger which distributes it through the global and well-respected Lutheran World Relief program.

Quilts, School Kits and Health Kits

Each fall, Trinity packs up quilts made by our Quilting Group, along with health kits and school supplies in backpacks sewn by our members and ships them, in cooperation with other area Lutheran churches, for worldwide distribution.

Give a Child the Opportunity to Go to School

Why school supplies? To the children who receive School Kits, these supplies mean the difference between getting an education or not. Public school is usually free, but in the places where LWR works, even a few required supplies, like pens and paper, may be more than many families can afford. And when parents can only afford to send one of their children to school, girls rarely get priority…yet the education level of mothers has the biggest impact on development.

For those Trinity folks who enjoy sewing: Plan to sew backpack drawstring school bags this summer! Ziploc bags with materials and instruction sheets are available in the gathering space.

All of us can collect school supplies! Bring them in beginning July 15th. Our Church in Society Mission will assemble the bags. See the school supplies checklist.
